How do you try out for Marine recon?
Enlisted Marines and new recruits can qualify to become a Recon Marine candidate if they:
- Are a U.S. citizen.
- Score a 105 or higher on your ASVAB’s General Technical section.
- Be very physically fit as a swimmer and for fitness tests.
- Can get a secret security clearance.
- Pass a screening for selection.
What are the physical requirements to be a Recon Marine?
Physical Requirements
- INITIAL STRENGTH TEST. To even begin recruit training, aspiring Marines must pass the Initial Strength Test (IST).
- PULL UPS / PUSH UPS. Male: 3 pull-ups or 34 push-ups (2:00 time limit)
- RUN. Male: 1.5 mile run in 13:30.
- PLANK OR CRUNCHES. 40 second plank (1:03 minimum)

What is it like to be a recon Marine?
