What to read after Rudin?

What to read after Rudin?

My advice: Read Rudin’s Principles and Real and Complex, then read Lieb and Loss. These three books cover pretty much everything you need to know for analysis (specifically PDE analysis). Read Stein and Shakarchi for fun since I think it is worth reading.

Is Rudin a good book?

Baby/Blue Rudin is a great book for an introduction to the basics of analysis (beyond one-variable “advanced calculus”). After that I’d suggest looking at the ‘Lectures in Analysis’ series written by Elias Stein and Rami Shakarchi (Stein was actually Terrence Tao’s advisor).

Is Baby Rudin good for self study?

Pugh appears to be written to be read before Baby Rudin, which is actually a somewhat advanced textbook (and not good for self study).

What is mathematical analysis used for?

Analysis is the branch of mathematics dealing with limits and related theories, such as differentiation, integration, measure, sequences, series, and analytic functions. These theories are usually studied in the context of real and complex numbers and functions.

Is math analysis hard?

It is a difficult class if you don’t put in the effort, time, and willingness to study and learn into it. Come into class knowing it will probably be the class that challenges you the most, so get ready to study and understand the material.

How can I improve my math analysis?

1 Answer

  1. Have the definitions down cold.
  2. After reading theorems, try to replicate the proofs, but not in the sense that you will memorize it line by line.
  3. Start with a less difficult text.
  4. Write, write, write.
  5. Study with a buddy.
  6. Write what you want to find, state what you know, use what you know to prove the result.
