How much TNT is in a torpedo?
The warhead of the US Navy’s MK-48 torpedo contains explosive power equivalent to approximately 1200 pounds of TNT. This explosive power is maximized when the warhead detonates below the keel of the target ship, as opposed to striking it directly.
Do torpedoes explode?

What did Bangalores do?
By the time of World War I the Bangalore torpedo was primarily used for clearing barbed wire before an attack. It could be used while under fire, from a protected position in a trench. It would then be pushed forward from a protected position and detonated, to clear a 1.5 m (5 ft) wide hole through barbed wire.
Why is it called a Bangalore?
Also called as ‘Bangalore mine’, ‘Bangalore Banger’ or simply ‘Bangalore’, it was used to clear barbed wires or booby traps and was devised by the soldiers of the Madras Engineering Group (MEG). Informally known as Madras Sappers, they accompanied the British Army in their battles.
