What do people study at Caltech?
Caltech’s extraordinary faculty and students are expanding our understanding of the universe and inventing the technologies of the future, with research interests from quantum science and engineering to bioinformatics and the nature of life itself, from human behavior and economics to energy and sustainability.
How much work is Caltech?
Student Employment The Caltech Career Development Center is happy to assist students in finding part-time jobs. Students typically work an average of 4-10 hours per week. Students may not work for more than 16 hours per week. First-year students may not work during fall term.
Is Caltech a trimester?
Caltech operates on a trimester system, with three terms a year that are each eleven weeks long. In addition, students take an average of five classes each term, while students at other universities generally take only four classes.
Is Caltech pass fail?
When the work is completed the appropriate letter grade is given or a P if the student is a freshman or if the course is taken on a pass/fail basis. Students receiving such grades should consult with their instructors no later than the beginning of the next term in residence.
Can I take classes at other schools while attending Caltech?
I heard I can take classes at other schools while attending Caltech. Caltech students may enroll for one or two classes at Occidental College and the Art Center at Night program which is paid for by Caltech fulltime tuition. Come to the Registrar’s Office for additional information.
What is it like to study math at Caltech?
Caltech students tend to look more for patterns, trends, and algorithms. For example, learning to argue by symmetry in Math and Physics, instead of memorizing theorems. Also, since nearly all problems are posed in the abstract, Caltech students tend to see completing a problem as finding an algorithm or formula, not obtaining the numerical answer.
How do I petition to return to Caltech?
Undergraduate students petitioning to return from leave should complete and submit the Undergraduate Student Return from Leave Form to notify Caltech of their intent to return six weeks prior to their intended return date. Please also notify Financial Aid and Housing that you are petitioning to return. I am academically ineligible.
