When reading English, it is most natural to read from left to right and top to bottom.
Why do we read top to bottom?
Conformity and convention have ensured that we read and write from left to right and read from top to bottom. Hieroglyphs, the characters of the ancient Egyptian writing system, could be written in either direction; the animal and human shapes facing towards the start of the line showed you which way to read the text.
Who reads from bottom to top?
Most of the world’s top to bottom languages are found in Asia. These include Mongolian, Chinese, certain Japanese dialects, and a couple Korean dialects, though some are written vertically from left to right, and some are written vertically from right to left.

The direction of a writing system is called directionality. Writing systems that go from left to right are sometimes referred to as sinistrodextral, based on Latin roots for left (sinister) and right (dexter).
Do you read Japanese top to bottom?
