Why didnt gon fight Meruem?

When Netero was talking to Meruem, it was obvious Meruem did not wish to fight. The only reason why they fought was because Netero promised to tell him his name if he won. Gon didn’t know Meruem’s name so Meruem wouldn’t fight Gon. So that was why Meruem would beat Adult Gon even before the explosion.
