What is IML process?
In-mould labelling (IML process) is the innovative labelling technology for plastic packaging. The procedure is sophisticated: pre-printed labels are placed in the injection moulding machine. This means that the labelling process takes place during the packaging production process, not afterwards.
How does in mold labeling work?
In-mould labelling is the use of paper or plastic labels during the manufacturing of containers by blow molding, injection molding, or thermoforming processes. Combining the decoration process with the moulding process cuts the total cost, but can increase the manufacturing time.
How IML labels are made?
Instead of decorating parts with a common pad printing or painting, IML is done during moulding. The label is loaded into the mould, where it is fused into the outer surface of the moulded part. Mould labelled graphics are impervious to chemicals and abrasion.
What is in-mold label?
In-mold labeling (IML) is a process in which producing plastic packaging and labeling plastic packaging are done at the same time during manufacturing. IML is commonly used with blow molding to create containers for liquids.
What material is IML?
The term “in mold labeling” (IML) is directly derived from the technique: a preprinted polypropylene (PP) label is placed in a mold that has the shape of the end product, e.g. the shape of a butter tub. Then the molten PP is added to the mold, fuses with the label and -while curing- takes the shape of the mold.
What are cut and stack labels?
Cut and stack labels are labels printed on large sheet or rolls. Then, once removed from the printing press, stacks of the label sheets are cut into the correct shape, sometimes using pre-made die cuts, and stacked.

What is the difference between IML and IMD?
IMD and IML are In-mold Decoration technologies which can add beautiful decoration and functional layers onto the plastic surface. *IMD is a decorative technology to transfer graphic in injection mold process, it is known as “In-mold Decoration” in single short. IML is known as “In-mold Labeling” in single short.
What is insert molding?
Insert molding is a similar process but instead uses a preformed part—often metal—that is loaded into a mold where it is then overmolded with a thermoplastic resin to create a final component. When the run is complete, parts are boxed and shipped shortly thereafter.
