What do you call a world without rules?
The call of chaos. Of course, there has long been an appetite among some people for a less formalised society, a society without government, a world where individual freedom takes precedence: an anarchy.
Why rules are important in our society?

The first reason why rules are important is that they maintain civil behaviour in the community. Everyone should have a civil behaviour; meaning to be courteous and polite to others.

Well, on a serious note, no, we cannot survive without a government, because we always need a leader to make our path easy to survive, to make laws for us and to make the public follow the laws, to control everything on micro as well as on the macro levels and that’s what the government does.

But without some rules – and some tendency for us to stick to them – society would slide rapidly into pandemonium. Indeed, many social scientists would see our tendency to create, stick to, and enforce rules as the very foundation of social and economic life. Our relationship with rules does seem to be unique to humans.
Are We dependent on the government?
Truth be told, government and “we, the people” are not just connected; we’re utterly dependent on each other. Government depends on us for revenue, and we depend on government for protection and services, from inspecting the safety of the food we eat to saving lives when there’s a human-made or natural disaster.
Are rules and norms really the problem?
But as a behavioural scientist I believe that it is not really rules, norms and customs in general that are the problem – but the unjustified ones. The tricky and important bit, perhaps, is establishing the difference between the two. A good place to start is to imagine life in a world without rules.
