How does USNCO work?
The U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad (USNCO) program is a chemistry competition for high school students. Participate in the Local Chemistry Olympiad Competition. The local competition is open to all high school students. ACS Local Sections choose nominees for the national exam.
How many people qualify for USNCO?
Approximately 16,000 U.S. students sit for the local exam each year. More than 1000 students qualify to take the National Exam annually.
Are you allowed a calculator on the Usnco?
Programmable calculators, cellular phones or any other device that can access the internet or make copies are NOT permitted during the USNCO Local Section and the USNCO National exams. This rule should be publicized so students come to the exam prepared.

The U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad National Exam is a 3-part, 4 hour and 45 minute exam administered in mid or late April by ACS Local Sections and International Chapters.
How is the chemistry Olympiad scored?
Scoring. ACS calculates the average number of correctly answered questions by topic area. Based on this average, each student’s score in a particular topic is compared to the overall average and rated as: Below Average, Average, Above Average, or Outstanding Performance.
