We’re the sensitive sensuals, the hopeless romantics — and of course, we can also be the overthinkers. Regardless of labels, each and every individual is different. The HSP experience isn’t a monolith. These are a few things I’ve gathered from *my own* experiences dating as a highly sensitive person.

- Make sure you’ve had enough sleep: Rest or take a nap before facing a situation that will be highly stimulating or after an intense one to regroup.

- If the person is angry or tearful, don’t run away from or avoid the emotion.

Here are some suggestions on how to cope:
- Learn to listen.
- Say to yourself that the other person is struggling.
- Set boundaries.
- When calm, talk about what you can do that helps them the most when they are upset.
- Be a thermostat for the environment.
- Be sensitive, but don’t walk on eggshells.
- Have outside interests.
