What will happen if I drink expired green tea?

Note – Drinking green tea after expiry has no harm or health concerns as intense as you may expect. Green teas don’t culture bacteria that multiply when kept for too long like in many other tea varieties. There are no known reports, or evidence of deaths or long term severe illnesses from drinking expired green tea.

Can we use green tea bag after expiry date?

Tea bags will be fine for at least a year in the pantry, but even long after that, they’re still safe to consume. They just might change colour or flavour. If your tea has an expiration date then it’s just for best quality, not safety.

Does tea actually expire?

Tea is relatively forgiving, and rarely spoils as long as it’s stored properly. Old tea may simply be less flavorful and fresh than new tea, and will brew up a weaker cup with a stale flavor. In this sense, tea doesn’t actually have an “expiration date” after which it will be unsafe to drink.

Does green tea expire?

As a general rule, tea you brew fresh at home should be consumed within 3-4 days. This doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be consumed after that time but there will be a noticeable difference as the taste begins to break down. Bottled tea will almost always have an expiration date on it.
