What happens when a child is sedated?

While your child is sedated, the nurse or doctor will monitor your child’s blood pressure, heartbeat and breathing often. The nurse may use several different machines, called monitors, to check on your child. After the sedation, the nurse or doctor will watch your child closely until they are ready to go home.

What happens when you are under sedation?

Sedation is generally characterized by people feeling drowsy but being in a relaxed state of consciousness. Whereas, when people are under general anesthesia, they have a complete loss of consciousness. Cardiovascular function is usually maintained throughout sedation, and people are able to breathe independently.

What should you not do before being sedated?

• Do not eat or drink anything for 8 hours prior to appointment. (
• Please take all morning medications (including blood pressure medications) with a small sip of water.
• Have a responsible adult with you to drive you TO and FROM your appointment.
• Wear loose clothing, comfortable clothing.

Is deep sedation safe for kids?

How do they sedate a 2 year old?
