Is UHMW abrasion resistant?
Extremely tough abrasion resistant, low cost plastic, used for a wide range of wear applications. UHMW (ultra high molecular weight polyethylene) is an extremely tough plastic with high abrasion and wear resistance. Get a Quote or Shop for UHMW Sheet, Rod, or Fabricated Parts.
What are the properties of UHMWPE?
UHMWPE has good mechanical, physical and tribological properties, such as: extreme hardness and durability, good chemical resistance, abrasion resistance, impact resistance, being easy to fabricate, a very low coefficient of friction and being a non-polarity polymer [6–12].
Why is UHMWPE used?
UHMWPE has low friction, high wear resistance, good toughness, high impact strength, high resistance to corrosive chemicals, excellent biocompatibility, and low cost. Highly cross-linked UHMWPE has been successfully used in load-bearing joints and becomes the standard in total hip replacements.
Is UHMWPE UV resistant?
In its natural state, UHMW-PE is not UV stable, but formulations are available to provide UV stability in natural, black or any custom color.
Is UHMWPE a crystalline?
UHMWPE is a linear (non-branching) semi-crystalline polymer which can be described as a two phase composite of crystalline and amorphous phases. The crystalline phase contains chains folded into highly oriented lamellae, with the crystals being orthorhombic in structure (Lin and Argon 1994).
Is UHMWPE sustainable?
As a natural oil, it is obtained from renewable resources. Unlike other sustainable alternatives to petrochemical, such as biodiesel, which are extracted from edible products, it is extracted from the orange peel; hence, it not only is sustainable, but also does not put pressure on the human food supply.
What is the tensile strength of UHMWPE?
UHMW Polyethylene Material Properties
Property | Metric | English |
---|---|---|
Density | 931 – 949 | 0.034 |
Mechanical | ||
Yield Strength | 2.14e7 – 2.76e7 | 3.1 – 4.0 |

Does polyethylene wear resistant?
The effect of the molecular weight and branching of polyethylene on its wear resistance in direct contact with abrasive particles has been investigated. The abrasive wear resistance of the polyethylene increases with its molecular weight. Copolymers have better wear resistance than homopolymers.
Can you weld Uhmwpe?
Yes, UHMW can be welded. Virgin UHMW is preferable but factory regrind is also weldable. Some UHMW with silicone and other additives is not weldable. The welding rod that you should use is 3/16” HDPE part number 46030.
Can Uhmwpe be dyed?
UHMWPE fibers were dyed with a series of anthrquinoid blue dyes having different length of alkyl substituents at general dyeing condition. Color strength of the fabrics was increased with the increase of dyeing temperature from 100 to 130 °C. From the dyeing rate, equilibrium dyeing at 130°C was achieved at 2–3 h.
Is UHMWPE linear?
New from Invyr, the UHMWPE Mechanical Switch Linear Stems V2 deliver a unique linear typing experience, and they’re only available here on Drop. Made from Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE), which has an ultra-low friction coefficient, these stems are smoother than POM or PC stems.
