What is the maximum sound limit?
Eighty-five decibels is considered the highest safe exposure level up to a maximum of eight hours. The permissible time for safe listening decreases as sound levels increase. For example, a sound as high as 100 dB – the level produced by a subway train – can be safely listened to for only 15 minutes each day.
What is the upper limit of sound for residential area?
Notes: Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has declared the permissible noise level in India for different areas. In industrial areas, it is 75 dB (daytime) and 70 dB (night). In commercial areas, it is 65 dB and 55 dB respectively and in residential areas it is 55 dB and 45 dB.
