Therefore, physical and medical fitness is a must requirement to qualify for IPS. All candidates have to meet the minimum height, weight, chest, eyesight and hearing requirements. Even Though there is no specific physical test required to get selected, fitness is mandatory after selection.

The minimum height necessary for IPS is 150 cm for women in the general category and 145 cm for women in the other categories. Men’s chests should be at least 84 cm and extendable up to 5 cm, while women’s chests should be at least 79 cm and expandable up to 5 cm.

Do IPS officers play sports?
No, as of now there are no records that an IPS officer participating in Olympic Games for shooting. Though there are few DSP’s of Haryana, Punjab and Orissa cadre who have taken part in the Olympic Games. And they have received the DSP posting through the state government under sports quota.
Can IPS have spectacles?
About Corrections permitted: Correction like Spectacles, CL and Refractive Surgery like Lasik, ICL, IOL etc are permitted. However, if refractive surgery was done, the case to be referred to a Special Board of Ophthalmologists.
