How long does Ich stay in your tank?
Ich stays on a fish body for 5 to 6 days before it drops into the water. Healthy fish can sustain several waves of infection with remedies and treatment. However, if left unresolved and with compromised immunity or if stressed, your fish might start dying within a week and two of a severe infection.
Can fish become immune to Ich?
Fish that survive mild infections can develop immunity. There are currently no drugs or chemicals that kill Ich while it resides in the fish skin or gills; they can only kill Ich when the parasite is in the water, and therefore all current therapies require a cyclical re-treatment program.
Does Melafix treat ich?
Melafix and Pimafix wont treat Ick, They will only help heal the wounds from the parasites as to where it wont cause a secondary bacterial infection on the fish. Normally use the medications as prescribed by the company.
Can you mix MELAFIX with ICH treatment?
Yes, this combination is in fact recommended if treating stubborn infections. Use each fish remedy at the recommended dose. There is no need to reduce the dose when using both of them.
Can you use MELAFIX Pimafix and Super Ick Cure together?
We recommend API SUPER ICK CURE along with API AQUARIUM SALT; or alternatively MELAFIX (or BETTAFIX if you have a betta fish) and PIMAFIX together.
How do you treat fish with Ich in the aquarium?
Isolate and treat infected fish. Hospice aquariums, usually 10-20 gallon setups like the help you target only the diseased fish. This allows you to dose with a commercial Ich treatment such as Cupramine, Super Ick Cure™, or Rid-Ich+, while your inverts remain safely in the main aquarium.
Does Copper kill ich in aquariums?
Many commercial Ich treatments utilize copper to kill the Ich parasite. This is fine in fish only aquariums, but copper is toxic to aquatic invertebrates like snails, crabs, shrimp and crayfish.
How much Ich-X do you put in fish tank?
Dose Ich-X according to the instructions, which is 5 ml of medication per 10 gallons of aquarium water, and wait 24 hours. (Do not use half-strength dosage for sensitive fish because that concentration will not be strong enough to kill ich. After treating thousands of fish, we have never seen a problem with any species.)
What are the symptoms of Ich in fish?
Other symptoms may include loss of appetite, rapid breathing, fish rubbing their bodies against surfaces, lethargy, and hiding behavior. If your fish has ich that comes from an external parasite, you will see five spots today and then maybe 35 spots tomorrow.
