Can you use food Colouring as fountain pen ink?
Modern food colouring is often in a paste format – not so good for the calligrapher. But the older style of coloured liquid in a bottle is great to use as a cheap ink – they mix together too, and if you felt the need to write on food they’d be perfect! It’s also worth diluting the inks to see what happens.
Can you use watercolor ink in fountain pens?
To use with watercolour, you can choose waterproof inks. And you can refill your fountain pen an infinite number of times which makes it economical compared to buying disposable pens constantly. Many of those pens above are disposable pens and will be thrown out after their ink runs out.
Can I use food coloring as ink?
Both will function the exact same way, as fountain pen ink is pretty much just water and dyes, and well, so is food coloring. The only real difference is that food coloring is edible, so I suppose that it degrades in a different manner compared to FP inks.

Because fountain pen inks are water based most are not waterproof and don’t do well when they get wet. There are many fountain pen inks that are either waterproof or water resistant. They are made from various components that make them waterproof.
Can I use watercolor over ink?
If you apply watercolor too soon after drawing with ink, it’s likely that some smudging will occur. Most inks will dry after an hour or two, but to avoid this completely, you’ll want to wait 12 to 24 hours for the ink to fully dry and set into the paper.
