Are prison calls listened to?

If you are a high or exceptional risk category A prisoner prison staff may listen to all your calls. If not, prison staff may listen to some of your calls. Prison staff can hear both of the people in the phone call.

Are prison calls confidential?

Unless you hear the electronic CDCR voice announcement that “this is a telephone call from a California State prison inmate,” or unless it is a confidential call that you initiated through appropriate prison channels, do not accept the call.
