dianadc2103, I agree with everything that was written here, however, there are cases you cannot use “sadder”, for example: “I am more sad than happy” is gramatically correct, but you wouldn’t really use that structure with opposites like sad & happy, but a better example would be “I’m more sad than frustrated”.
