What is berthing in space?
Docking and berthing of spacecraft is the joining of two space vehicles. Berthing refers to mating operations where a passive module/vehicle is placed into the mating interface of another space vehicle by using a robotic arm.
How do astronauts get to the ISS?
Typically, astronauts travel to the space station via a Russian Soyuz capsule (first launched in 1967), which has long been the only spacecraft that ferries people to the ISS, since NASA’s space shuttle programme retired in 2011.

The launch abort system is a crew safety system built into the Dragon spacecraft, used to quickly separate Dragon from Falcon 9 in the unlikely event of an emergency.
How does the Dragon spacecraft work?
Using its SuperDraco engines, Dragon will propel itself away from the launch vehicle. The Dragon spacecraft is equipped with 16 Draco thrusters used to orient the spacecraft during the mission, including apogee/perigee maneuvers, orbit adjustment and attitude control.
