Does my Internet service provider knows my internet history?
Internet Service Providers (ISPs) can see everything you do online. They can track things like which websites you visit, how long you spend on them, the content you watch, the device you’re using, and your geographic location.

Not quite, but it’s frightening close. Your Internet service provider tracks what IP addresses you contact, which effectively means they know the web sites you’re visiting. They can also read anything you send over the Internet that isn’t encrypted. Whether they actually do that is an open question.

Many ISPs compile anonymous browsing logs and sell them to marketing companies. Some Internet providers are even moving to make privacy a premium add-on, using your Internet history to market to you in much the same way websites do, unless you pay an additional monthly fee.

Like VPN for work, these systems allow you to encrypt your online activity, so your ISP cannot track it. These type of private VPNs can be used to provide secure browsing while you’re connected to a public Internet connection, or to mask your online activities from your ISP.
Does your ISP share your data with the government?
Your ISP is often bound by law to provide any and all information to the government when it’s requested. In the fine print of your service contract with your ISP, you’ll find wording that discloses this practice. In essence, there isn’t a team of FBI agents watching your every online interaction because it’s not necessary.
