How is Hapkido different from martial arts?
Hapkido is a self-defense oriented martial art designed to take down an opponent in a street fight or a realistic fighting situation. On the other hand, karate is a martial art that consists of the strikes and blocks in a very rigid, blocky format instead of hapkido’s natural “flowing and redirecting” style.

There is vertical fist punch in Hapkido as well as some Chinese martial arts and in older styles of boxing, but I see it a lot less in modern fighting and sparring. What are the disadvantages of taekwondo over other martial arts?
Arts with lower stances, such as the many styles of Okinawan karate, are more difficult to throw. The low stances are also a weakness making it difficult to move freely. This disadvantage is the mobility advantage of Taekwondo. I know this is a simplified answer.
What makes one martial art system better than another?
No Martial Art system is inherently better than any other, and such statements to the contrary are ALWAYS a matter of opinion. Advantages and disadvantages come from application of specific techniques applied at the right or wrong time, and the skill or lack thereof on the part of the Martial Artist – – not the art itself.
