As per new 2021 draft policy, ISRO and Department of Space (DoS) is working on expanding the coverage of NavIC from regional to global that will be independent of other such system currently operational namely GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou and Galileo while remain interoperable and free for global public use.
That’s why even smartphones launched in the recent past don’t have support for NavIC. So far, Qualcomm has announced that only Snapdragon 460, 662 and 720G have onboard NavIC support. Is NavIC operational?

NavIC system covers the entire Indian mainland and 1,500 km beyond the country’s borders, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is already on record saying friendly neighbouring countries could also be provided the service when the system is operational.

Check NavIC support on your smartphone
- Install GSPTest or GNSSTest applications on your Android smartphone.
- Once you open the installed app, tap on “Start Test”
- The app will now start detecting all the navigation satellite available.
- If the app shows Indian satellites, it means your phone has NavIC support.
