What happens before an IEP meeting?
Before the Meeting Write and double-check the IEP. These may include draft IEPs, signature pages, testing (for an initial IEP), parents rights fliers/booklets, medical assistance forms, and/or final progress reports for the previous IEP. Make sure there are enough copies for everyone who will be attending.
Are IEP drafts required?
California law states that a district must priovide parents with a student’s records within five business (not school days) days after parents’ request. A draft IEP would be considered a student record, and the district must provide a draft IEP within five days from the request by a parent.
Should IEP goals be written before the meeting?
Parents and school personnel need to share important information before the IEP meeting. This information may include draft IEPs, evaluations, and written reports prepared by the parents.
Is predetermination illegal?
Predetermination is a procedural violation of the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) that deprives parents of the opportunity to meaningfully participate in their child’s IEP. (20 U.S.C. §1415(F)(3)(E)(ii)). Predetermination can deny the child a free appropriate public education (FAPE).
