Will Erebus and Terror be raised?
Fieldwork planned for this year has been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Archaeological work on HMS Terror and HMS Erebus, the two shipwrecks of the ill-fated Franklin Expedition found in Nunavut waters several years ago, will resume in 2022. This was announced by Parks Canada in a press release.
Could the Franklin expedition have survived?
A series of scientific studies in modern times suggested that the men of the expedition did not all die quickly. Robert McClure led one of many expeditions to investigate the fate of Franklin’s expedition, and finally identified an ice-bound route connecting the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean, returning alive.

While much of the series is fiction, an equal amount is facts. According to South China Morning Post, the expedition did happen that consisted of the two boats- Terror and Erebus, and it was Franklin’s third and final expedition to the Northwest Passage.
