What is hub and routers?
A hub and a router are both electronic devices used in computer systems networking. A router is a more sophisticated device with both hardware and software that is used to connect multiple area networks (LANs and WANs), or two or more logical subnets. See also Hub vs. Switch.
What is a hub in information technology?
Hubs. A hub is a physical layer networking device which is used to connect multiple devices in a network. They are generally used to connect computers in a LAN. A computer which intends to be connected to the network is plugged in to one of these ports.
What is a router in computer network?
A router is a switching device for networks, which is able to route network packets, based on their addresses, to other networks or devices. Among other things, they are used for Internet access, for coupling networks or for connecting branch offices to a central office via VPN (Virtual Private Network).
What is hub in networking with example?
In general, a hub refers to a hardware device that enables multiple devices or connections to connect to a computer. An example is a USB hub, which allows multiple USB devices to connect to one computer, even though that computer may only have a few USB connections.
What is hub and its types?
The three types are active, passive and intelligent. Active hubs amplify the incoming electric signal, whereas passive hubs do not amplify the electric signal. Intelligent hubs are kind of active hubs.
What is router & Switch?
Router and Switch are both network connecting devices. Router works at network layer and is responsibe to find the shortest path for a packet whereas Switch connects various devices in a network. Router connects devices across multiple networks. Following are the important differences between Router and Switch.
What is Hub also known as?
A hub is a common connection point, also known as a network hub, which is used for connection of devices in a network. It works as a central connection for all the devices that are connected through a hub.
What is router and types?
Routers, acting as the police of network traffic, are responsible for directing different types of networks to maintain the best transmission routes on their own roads. They are wired routers, wireless routers, core routers, edge routers and VPN routers.
What is the function of hub?
Hub vs Switch vs Router
template | Hub |
---|---|
Function | To connect a network of personal computers together, they can be joined through a central hub |
Data Transmission form | electrical signal or bits |
Port | 4/12 ports |
Transmission type | Frame flooding, unicast, multicast or broadcast |
Does a hub have an IP address?
As others have said, hubs don’t use IP or MAC addresses. They just mirror everything from every port to all other ports.
What is the role of a hub in a network?
Hubs function as the central connection point for Local Area Network (LAN). When a hub receives a packet of data (an Ethernet frame) at one of its ports from a network device, it transmits (repeats) the packet to all of its ports to all of the other network devices.
