Do you have to live on campus freshman year at Oxford University?
All Oxford campus first- and second-year full-time students are required to live in the residence halls through the spring semester of their second academic year of enrollment. Students in residence halls are required to subscribe to a University meal plan.
Do you get your own room at Oxford?
All our students are given a college room for their first year. This is arranged by the college, so your child won’t need to sort it out themselves.
Do Oxford students have to live in Oxford?
All undergraduates are required to live within six miles of central Oxford or 25 miles if living with your parents or guardians. There are some exceptions to this but overall Oxford believes that this adds to the strong community feel within every college.
Can you stay in halls for all of uni?
Contrary to popular belief, you can stay in uni halls of residence beyond your first year, and many students continue to live in halls for their second and third years.
Does Oxford provide dorms?
If you choose to ‘live out’, Oxford has a large selection of privately-rented houses and flats available. Living out does tend to be more expensive as houses are normally rented for the whole year rather than just for term time.

Oxford features four traditional-style residence halls: Fleming Hall. Murdy and Elizer Halls. Haygood Hall.
Is Oxford a safe place to live?
Safety and Security Life in Oxford is fairly safe, with a relatively low crime rate, although it obviously has more crime than smaller towns and less populated areas, since it is still a city. There are around 1.15 violent crimes per 100 residents living in Oxford, in comparison with the city of London, which has 8.34.
