Is it normal to be nervous about boot camp?

Marine Corps basic training has the reputation of being the toughest of all the services. It most certainly is the longest, at about 12 1/2 weeks. It has been said time and time again by former Marines that Marine Corps recruit training was the most difficult thing they ever had to do in their entire lives.

How long does it take to get recruited in the Marines?

It’s a process to get accepted from a week to a couple weeks depending on the health and physical condition of the individual to include background of criminal history and restraints. I have been active and reserve in four branches, each are different, training schools can last 4 – 8 weeks. About a month long process.

What are the requirements to enlist in the Marines?

Anyone who wants to join the Marines must first sign an enlistment contract. This occurs before any type of training begins. The enlistment contract details the conditions of your position with the Marines, including how long your time in the service is.

What disqualifies you from enlisting in the Marines?

New Marines are required to stay on base and are only allowed contact with their families through letters until graduation. Your tattoos and piercings may disqualify you from enlisting in the Marines. The Marine Corps has a very strict appearance policy that is consistently enforced.

Can you enlist in the Marine Corps with past drug use?

Past drug use is not necessarily going to disqualify you from enlisting in the Marine Corps. Experimental use of marijuana, for example, might be waivered by your recruiter if you have only used it once or twice. Regular use of cocaine, on the other hand, is a full disqualification.

Can you join the Marine Corps with a misdemeanor?

If you have a misdemeanor conviction, it can often be waivered. However, multiple misdemeanors are usually a disqualification. The Marine Corps will conduct a full background investigation on you, so be honest if you have any arrests or convictions. Any arrests that have been expunged from the record are not reported in the background check.
